Tesco Blackpool Refit
Date Added: Wed 29 October 2008
Scanachrome were invited to design giant promotional rafts which would be featured as part of a new Tesco concept store.
The giant ceiling rafts would promote Womenswear, Men's wear, Kids & Baby wear. The challenge was to develop giant oval display solution which could be suspended. The client required a solution which delivered 100% visibility of graphics when viewed internally or externally with no visible joins in the graphics.
There were 5 rafts in total the largest of which measured a giant 12.5m x 8.5m x 500mm. Stephen Arthur (Scanachrome Division) attended Tesco's concept store in Welyn Garden City with David Greatbatch (SP Group) to view an existing competitor protor type which Tesco's had already rejected. The solution was to manufacture the rafts using 50 x 20mm aluminum box sections which were curved to form the required shapes and dimensions. Each aluminum section was joined together using joining spigots, the final rafts were suspended by tension wires at approximately 2.0m intervals to a finished installation height of 4.0m ready.
Stephen Arthur commented that "that this was a very challenging project, designed and delivered in very challenging circumstances and required a team effort to overcome some of the technical difficulties"
