Weir Stand Tours The World

Working with creative agency Union Connect (www.union.co.uk) for their client Weir Power & Industrial, we produced and project managed the installation of a modular exhibition stand at various shows around the world in Scotland, China, Indonesia, Italy and the U.S.A.

Weir Power & Industrial is one of three divisions of the Weir Group PLC, a FTSE 100 listed company delivering engineering solutions to customers worldwide. Their range of products includes engineered valves, speciality pumps and steam turbines, in addition to a range of services for hydro and wind turbines, turbomachinery, valves and pumps.

Part of their marketing communications plan for 2011 involved having a presence at a number of international trade exhibitions including Offshore Europe and PowerGen International. Having previously used a standard pop-up stand, they decided to develop a much more modern and innovative modular stand that would better reflect Weir’s reputation as a world class engineering company.

The client needed a stand that would work across the different space sizes at all of the exhibition venues and a modular stand proved to be the ideal solution. Our modular systems are very flexible and can be easily configured and re-used whatever the size of the exhibition space.

We worked closely with both Union Connect and Weir to ensure that the stand incorporated all the elements they required including meeting areas, product display plinths, storage areas, refreshment facilities, glass shelving and literature holders. We used a number of different production techniques and substrates to brand the stand including fret-cut acrylic lettering with polished edges, illuminated signage, FSS Footprint freestanding signage and overhead canopies which were produced using our unique Fastrack hanging system in conjunction with Display Trevira fabric graphics. This ensured the Weir brand achieved high visibility throughout the exhibition venues.

This was an interesting yet challenging project for Service Graphics. In addition to producing the stand and graphics, we also organised the shipping and logistics to all of the venues worldwide. Our own install team then travelled to each of the shows to build up the stands and then dismantle when the shows finished. We also worked directly with the service providers at each venue to organise power and internet access which was sometimes less than straightforward because of the language barrier. Between shows we were also responsible for the storage of all assets including the stand and graphics, literature and the display valve models.

The shows were a great success and we will be working Union Connect and Weir again on their 2012 exhibitions.
